SITE-SPECIFIC WORKS

These public art installations were sited in New York City and the Catskills from 1982-1995.

“[April Kinser’s] installations are more thought than object, less place than idea. She combines minimalism as method and delicacy as a style, and these sometimes result almost in invisibility. Her history is the history of ideas, an immaterial history that can be captured only through a stylized symbolic representation, as in her piece Reflect Remember, which depends on Buddhist, Platonic, and transcendental thought to establish the purity and sublime contemplation of three delicately traced golden rectangles on the gallery wall and floor. There is something wistful about such low-profile art with such grand ambitions.”
